Mission and Philosophy


Eagle Baseball Club's goal is to teach athletes how to maximize athletic performance, avoid injuries and reach or surpass their goals in sports through the use of effective strength and conditioning programs tailored to the individual athlete.

Eagle Baseball Club believes that by increasing the player's athletic skills coupled with improving the athlete's specific sports skills, a player can effectively compete at and beyond their current level of play.

Charles Slavik's blend of experience as both a coach at virtually every level of baseball, combined with advanced and practical knowledge of the strength and conditioning field, allows him to provide the most effective program for players found anywhere.

The training progression is to initially assess the athletes work capacity and general athletic skill level relative to their peer group.  From there, Coach Slavik works together with the player to design an individualized training program, essentially a roadmap, to get the player from his current ability level to the level he sees himself at in his dreams.  It's a team effort and Coach Slavik takes his client's success and future very seriously.

The primary goal is to develop enhanced work capacity.  If work capacity increases, the athlete will adapt more readily to sustained increases in physical and mental demands.  This is the base of all solid training programming because without this base level of readiness, the mind and body cannot effectively absorb training for sports specificity.  Also, one cannot begin to address higher levels of training without building a solid base or foundation of physical conditioning.

After building a base level, Coach Slavik teaches sports-specific exercises to develop attributes or skills relevant to the sport.  Eagle Baseball Club has developed and applied a variety of exercises and programs used to develop this area.

Proper Conditioning + Sports Specific Training + Sports Skills Training = Success

In sports like baseball, if you have the basic, fundamental athletic skills, you can be up to 16 years old before you start learning the technical aspects of the game itself and still reach your peak.

It is easier to teach an athlete to play baseball than it is to teach a baseball player to be an athlete.

Think Long-Term Athletic Development and not Short-Term Specialization.

Sports Specific Training is a relatively new field.  Athletes should never get their training information from someone new to the game or who views it as a niche market.

In the same way a player needs to have both a great skill level and conditioning level coupled together to make a great player, a trainer needs a great background in both the sport and the strength and conditioning field. This allows the trainer to both properly understand the needs of the individual athlete relative to his sport and to effectively implement a program on the athletes behalf.
